Asturias government announces 2027 sports and culture funding
The Government of Asturias has announced a series of funding initiatives for 2027 focused on sports and cultural services. A primary component of the plan includes 4.8 million euros dedicated to sports, distributed among federations (2 million euros), high-level clubs (2.5 million euros), and high-performance athletes (300,000 euros).
Additional sports investments include 350,000 euros for sporting events and 400,000 euros to improve municipal sports facilities in municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants. The administration is also introducing new aid to support professional female athletes who are mothers and creating support lines for grassroots sports clubs.
In the cultural sector, the regional government plans to expand the mobile library (bibliobuses) network to serve municipalities with fewer than 2,000 residents. A new Action Plan for Libraries and Reading Promotion will target children and youth. Furthermore, a proposed Culture and Identity Law aims to protect the Asturian language and local cultural ecosystems. Other heritage initiatives include seeking 'Bien de Interés Cultural' status for Asturian mining culture.
