Asturias grid projects advance despite planning delays
Red Eléctrica will start work in the coming days on the first sub‑station of the central electricity ring in Asturias. The broader ring, whose concept was defined 18 years ago, awaits approval of a new 2030 development plan that is not expected until 2027, with full completion projected for 2029. The Cardoso sub‑station in Carreño, budgeted at €26.5 million, is part of the 2021‑2026 plan, while the remaining four sub‑stations and high‑voltage lines are pending inclusion.
Acciona Energía won the Narcea 400 kV hub contest to build a 320 MW reversible hydro plant in southwestern Asturias. The project, valued at over €400 million, aims to invest more than €323 million in the regional supply chain and to create up to 289 jobs over at least twelve years, along with extensive training and environmental programmes.
