Asturias municipalities improve roads and parking in Avilés and Ribadesella

In Avilés, the city council is constructing a new parking area adjacent to Hospital Universitario San Agustín as part of the AS‑17 renovation. The project will add 54 car spaces, several spots for people with reduced mobility and three spaces for motorcycles, alongside wider sidewalks, a new bus lane, and upgraded water, sewage and lighting networks. Mobility councillor Pelayo García said the aim is to let citizens "access public space on equal terms, regardless of personal circumstances".

In Ribadesella, works on La Cuesta have been completed, replacing the deteriorated pavement with an anti‑slip surface that mimics cobblestones and adding a blue‑painted pedestrian lane separated by reflective markings. The €80,000 investment also covered improvements on other local roads and will be followed by further upgrades after summer, including the Fonte del Cai street and access to the municipal sports complex.
