Asuka Saito and Miu Tomita to co-star in TV Tokyo drama ‘Mame to Mugi’

Asuka Saito and Miu Tomita will co-star in the upcoming TV Tokyo drama ‘Mame to Mugi’, scheduled to premiere on October 2. The series is a live-action adaptation of the manga by Natsuko Taniguchi.

The story follows two contrasting women: Mugi Shimizu (Saito), a 30-year-old former fashion magazine editor who has lost her career, dreams, and romantic life, and Mame Yoneda (Tomita), a 23-year-old who runs her grandparents' izakaya and struggles to attract customers despite her passion for fermented foods. The two join forces to revitalize the restaurant using Mugi’s editorial experience and Mame’s culinary skills.

Saito expressed her connection to the character of Mugi, noting the character's clumsy yet serious nature. Tomita highlighted the theme of growth, comparing the development of the characters and their relationship to the process of fermentation.
