Asunción authorities intercept illegal waste dumping in Roberto L. Pettit

The Municipality of Asunción intercepted a Mitsubishi dump truck attempting to illegally dispose of waste in the Roberto L. Pettit neighborhood. The incident occurred at the intersection of Avenida Ita Yvate and Capitán Figari.

Operating under the ‘Vertederos Cero’ (Zero Dumpsites) initiative directed by Mayor Luis Bello, the intervention was carried out by the Municipal Surveillance Police and the Municipal Transit Police (PMT). The driver, identified as Enzo García, was caught in the act, and the vehicle was taken to a municipal impound lot.

Luis Arévalo, head of the Municipal Surveillance Department, stated that these controls are being intensified to discourage illegal dumping and combat clandestine landfills. The offender faces sanctions for violating Ordinance No. 408/14, which governs the integral management of urban solid waste. Authorities also noted that environmental crimes can carry prison sentences and encouraged citizens to report similar irregularities.
