Bogotá water utility begins meter upgrades and announces service cuts

The Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Bogotá (EAAB) has launched a gradual technological update to replace old water meters with advanced devices across Bogotá. This program aims to improve measurement precision for households, businesses, and industries, helping to reduce water resource losses and ensure accurate billing. The initial phase targets the replacement of 319,000 devices, with approximately 11,000 already installed in the Usaquén, Chapinero, and Suba neighborhoods.

Simultaneously, scheduled water service interruptions are set for Wednesday, August 19, 2026, due to maintenance and repair works. Affected areas include several localities in Bogotá, such as Chapinero, Ciudad Bolívar, and Tunjuelito, as well as the neighboring municipality of Soacha in Cundinamarca. These cuts are intended to facilitate network improvements and prevent future supply issues. The Superintendencia de Servicios Públicos Domiciliarios is monitoring these activities to protect consumer rights.
