Asunción Completes Major General Díaz/Azara Road Renovation

The municipal administration of Asunción, led by Mayor Luis Bello, finished a comprehensive resurfacing of General Díaz/Azara street between Avenida Colón and Tacuary. The 16‑block project, the first of its kind since 2007‑2008, involved removing deteriorated pavement, installing concrete slabs near traffic lights and bus stops, and laying a new asphalt layer. Approximately 595 tonnes of asphalt and 775 tonnes of hydraulic concrete were applied, costing about 3.5 billion guaraníes. The upgraded road now supports heavy daily traffic of private vehicles and public transport, improving safety and durability for commuters in the city centre.

Director of Municipal Works Engineer Antoliano Benítez reported that the work also included regularizing the surface and installing protective barriers. The street is now fully open to traffic, restoring a key access route to the micro‑center of Asunción.
