Asunción officials cite vehicle shortage in garbage collection crisis

Municipal authorities in Asunción are addressing a deficit in garbage collection services, citing a lack of sufficient vehicles and personnel. Pedro Bogado, Director of General Services, informed the Municipal Council that the Urban Services Directorate requires at least 90 trucks, including collectors and compactors, to stabilize the service and reduce regular procurement issues.

This statement has faced scrutiny from Councilman Álvaro Grau, who noted that earlier this year, the administration claimed 40 trucks would be sufficient to optimize the service. Additionally, officials are responding to suspicions regarding the procurement process of 11 recently acquired trucks, which cost 13,606 million Guaraníes and were reportedly purchased without the Council's approval.
