Google launches global free AI subscription offer for students

Google has launched a global back-to-school initiative providing eligible higher education students with free access to premium AI services for 12 months. In the United States, qualifying students can receive one year of Google AI Pro, which includes Gemini Spark, 5TB of cloud storage, and integration within Gmail and Google Docs. For students in over 140 other markets, including Japan, Canada, Germany, and Australia, the offer provides one year of Google AI Plus, featuring Gemini Omni, 400GB of storage, and doubled usage limits.

To support academic workflows, Google is introducing a dedicated student hub within the Gemini app. This hub includes tools such as study notebooks for organizing course materials, flashcards, practice quizzes, and the ability to generate personalized study plans. New features also include Gemini Live with Deep Research capabilities for complex reporting and interactive visuals to explain difficult concepts. Additionally, Gemini now offers full-length SAT practice tests in collaboration with partners like The Princeton Review, providing immediate scoring and feedback.

In a separate hardware partnership, ASUS is bundling Google AI subscriptions with select laptop models, including ROG and Zenbook series, to enhance productivity for users. To redeem the student offers, individuals must verify their enrollment status through SheerID by December 31, 2026.
