ASUS ROG launches new RTX 50 series notebooks

ASUS has introduced three new premium ROG notebooks featuring NVIDIA RTX 50 series GPUs, targeting students and professionals for AI, study, and gaming. The lineup includes the Zephyrus G16, equipped with an RTX 5080 and an OLED 240Hz display; the Strix G16, utilizing an RTX 5070; and the SCAR 18, which integrates an RTX 5090 with 24GB of GDDR7 VRAM and a Mini LED display.

In related hardware developments, extreme overclocking tests on the RTX 5070 Ti have demonstrated the capabilities of GDDR7 memory. Using the mVolt+ Extreme utility, an overclocker pushed the VRAM to an effective speed of 39 Gbps, increasing theoretical bandwidth from 896 GB/s to approximately 1,248 GB/s. However, the tests noted that such significant memory speed increases resulted in only a marginal performance gain of about 5 FPS in gaming, suggesting that VRAM speed is not the sole bottleneck in these applications.
