ASVEL cuts budget to €24 million, endangering star signings

French EuroLeague club ASVEL, led by former NBA star Tony Parker, had projected a record €59 million budget for the 2026‑27 season to fund high‑profile signings such as Sylvain Francisco, Nick Weiler‑Babb, Armoni Brooks and former NBA player Daniel Theis. The club’s plan relied on a major Asian sponsor, but the partner failed to provide sufficient financial guarantees to the French regulator DNCCG. Consequently, ASVEL presented a revised budget of about €24 million, roughly matching last season’s level and similar to rival Paris Basketball.

The reduced budget puts the club’s ability to register the targeted players in doubt. Reports indicate that other EuroLeague teams, notably Greece’s Panathinaikos, are monitoring the situation and may pursue Francisco if ASVEL cannot meet its contractual obligations. Parker continues to search for a new sponsor to close the gap between the revised and original financial goals.
