Asyut Governor Seizes Fortified Flour to Stop Black‑Market Smuggling
Governor Mohamed Al‑Wan announced intensified inspections of municipal bakeries and market stalls across Asyut Governorate, acting on directives from President Abdel Fattah el‑Sisi and Minister of Supply Shereef Farouk. The operation confiscated ten sacks of subsidised flour before they could be diverted to the black market and issued 99 regulatory notices covering infractions such as under‑weight bread, non‑compliant production, unsanitary equipment, and misuse of fortified flour. The governor pledged continued daily monitoring to protect public funds and ensure subsidies reach eligible citizens.
The crackdown is part of a broader governmental effort to tighten control over Egypt’s food‑subsidy system and deter corruption within local supply chains.
