Atacama authorities deny involvement in Samsara music festival

The Samsara electronic music festival, scheduled for October 10 in the Chehueque sector of Vallenar, has sparked controversy due to its initial promotion as the ‘Official Festival of the Flowering Desert’ (Desierto Florido).

Regional authorities, including the Governor of Atacama, Miguel Vargas, and Sernatur, have categorically denied any involvement, sponsorship, or authorization of the event. The controversy intensified after promotional materials initially featured logos from the Atacama Regional Government, Sernatur, and ProChile, though these were later removed.

Environmental concerns have been raised regarding the potential impact on local flora and fauna within the priority conservation area. In response, organizers from Samsara Events stated the festival will take place entirely within a closed, private venue at the Jahir Saba distillery. They have pledged that no infrastructure will be placed on flowering areas and that attendees will not walk over the flowers. However, reports indicate the mass event lacks authorization from the Regional Presidential Delegation.
