Atacama mining companies formalize regional development agreement
During the FOREDE 2026 regional development forum in Copiapó, seventeen mining companies in the Atacama region formalized the ‘Compromiso Atacama’ agreement. This initiative, led by the Atacama Mining Cluster and CORPROA, aims to strengthen the participation of local suppliers in industry supply chains and promote regional human capital development.
The agreement includes the implementation of common contracting standards, a regional supplier platform, and programs to align technical training with industry needs. Key participating companies include Barrick, Capstone Copper, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP), ENAMI, Eramet, Fenix Gold, Gold Fields, Kinross, Lundin Mining, Minera Altair, Norte Abierto, NuevaUnión, Pucobre, Salar Blanco, and SCM Carola.
Chilean President José Antonio Kast attended the event, where regional leaders also addressed needs regarding security, infrastructure, and the reduction of bureaucratic hurdles for investment projects.
