Atalanta completes signing of midfielder Gianluca Gaetano

Atalanta announced the permanent acquisition of 26‑year‑old midfielder Gianluca Gaetano from Cagliari. The deal is reported to be €12 million in guaranteed fees plus €2 million in performance‑related bonuses, totalling €14 million.

Gaetano, a former Napoli player, has made 93 Serie A appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists, and has featured in five UEFA Champions League matches. He won the Serie A title with Napoli and helped Cremonese gain promotion to the top flight. During his stint at Cagliari he recorded 76 appearances and nine goals.

Atalanta’s official communication welcomed Gaetano, noting his versatility to play as a play‑maker or central midfielder. New coach Maurizio Sarri has highlighted the signing as a key addition to his midfield plans, suggesting a possible role change for the player. Medical examinations were completed and the contract was signed, finalising the transfer ahead of the upcoming Serie A season.
