Atalaya police accused of extortion and abuse

The province of Atalaya is facing significant social tension following allegations of systematic extortion and abuse by members of the Atalaya Sectorial Police Station. Víctor Raúl Dipas Tovar, president of the Frente Único de Defensa de la Provincia de Atalaya, has accused police officers of running a criminal network that targets local farmers and transporters.

According to the complaints, officers are allegedly conducting unauthorized interventions to extort citizens transporting fuel to rural areas such as Tahuanía and Unini. These supplies are essential for local machinery and electricity generators. Furthermore, the community has reported physical violence, including a specific incident where a nursing student allegedly suffered severe facial injuries during an irregular police procedure.

The local defense front has called upon the leadership of the National Police of Peru and the regional authorities of Ucayali to launch an immediate investigation and impose sanctions on those responsible to prevent further social unrest.
