Atanasio García Durán, Veracruz political and academic leader, dies at 83

Atanasio García Durán, a prominent academic, educator, and political figure in Veracruz, Mexico, has passed away at the age of 83.

García Durán had an extensive career in public education and academia. He served as a teacher in rural areas and held various administrative and academic roles, including positions at the Escuela Normal Superior Federal de Veracruz and as a researcher at the Universidad Veracruzana.

In the political sphere, he was a former federal and local deputy for the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) and served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Veracruz Congress. He was also recognized as a historical leader of the left in the region and participated in the formation of the Morena party in Veracruz. He was the father of former Veracruz Governor Cuitláhuac García Jiménez.
