Atanasio Girardot Stadium modernization reaches new milestone in Medellín
The modernization project for the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellín has completed a significant phase involving the removal of the western stand's roof. During this process, more than 600 tons of material were removed, including the cutting and dismantling of slabs, main beams, and structural components using telescopic cranes.
The project aims to expand the stadium's capacity from approximately 45,000 to over 60,000 spectators through the construction of a third level. According to the Empresa de Desarrollo Urbano (EDU), the works were coordinated to ensure scheduled events at the venue were not suspended.
Following this phase, the project will move toward the bidding process for the modernization and construction of the third level. The EDU has confirmed that plans, licenses, budgets, and technical designs are prepared for the upcoming tender.
