Atari announces modern reissue of 800XL 8-bit home computer

Atari, in collaboration with Retro Games Ltd. and PLAION REPLAI, has announced a modern reissue of its classic 8-bit home computer, the 800XL. The new version maintains the original 1983 aesthetic while incorporating contemporary hardware and connectivity.

Key technical features include a full-sized mechanical keyboard, an HDMI output supporting both PAL and NTSC signals, and USB-C power delivery. The device also includes four USB-A ports for peripherals and storage. A physical cartridge slot is included, allowing users to run original modules. The system supports software from the Atari 400, 800, XL, XE, and 5200 series, and features integrated Atari BASIC for programming.

The reissue comes with 25 pre-installed classic games, such as Centipede, Asteroids, and Missile Command. It also includes a joystick compatible with USB charging. The device is scheduled for release on April 23, 2027, with a retail price of 219.99 Euro.
