Atari announces RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks amid expert criticism
Atari and developer Springloaded have announced RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks, the first new entry in the franchise since 2016. The game is scheduled to enter early access on Steam this winter for €24.99, with subsequent releases planned for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles.
The new title features an isometric perspective and a miniature art style, utilizing a new physics system that simulates realistic wear and tear, including potential ride failures. At launch, players will have access to two parks, Hollow Creek and Forest Frontiers, featuring over sixty attractions and shops.
However, the announcement has met significant criticism from industry experts. Dutch YouTuber and RollerCoaster Tycoon specialist Marcel Vos released a detailed critique of the announcement trailer, labeling the project as “terrible” and a “money grab.” Vos raised concerns regarding the realism of the coaster designs, noting issues such as unrealistic track geometry, missing chain lifts, and structural flaws that he claims lack the depth expected from the franchise's legacy.
