Atatürk University hosts workshop on Turkey’s cultural heritage policies

Atatürk University hosted a workshop to examine the past, present, and future of Turkey’s cultural heritage policies. The event was organized as part of a TÜBİTAK 1001 scientific and technological research project titled “The 100-Year History of Turkey’s Cultural Heritage Policies, International Comparative Analysis, and Recommendations for the Future.”

Participants included academics, representatives from public institutions, field experts, and civil society organizations. The workshop evaluated the development of cultural heritage policies throughout the Republican era. Discussions were structured around seven key themes: legislation, social participation, education and social awareness, sustainable development, technology and innovation, transnational cooperation, and holistic approaches to preservation.

During the sessions, researchers shared project findings regarding institutionalization processes and current challenges. The workshop also addressed the importance of increasing social awareness in heritage protection, the effective use of digital technologies, and the integration of cultural heritage with sustainable development goals.
