Ateneo Blue Eagles dedicate UAAP Season 89 to deceased teammates

The Ateneo Blue Eagles men’s basketball team will dedicate its UAAP Season 89 campaign to teammates Divine Adili and Rene Baterbonia, who died in a drowning incident during a team-building activity in Aurora on June 8. To honor the deceased athletes, the men’s and women’s teams will wear jersey patches featuring the initials ‘DA’ and ‘RB’ throughout the tournament.

Interim coach Louie Alas has taken over the program following the resignation of former head coach Tab Baldwin and several staff members. Baldwin received an unappealable lifetime ban from the league and faces reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide charges following an investigation by the NBI. Other staff members, including the team manager and physical therapist, have also been suspended from league activities, though their sanctions are subject to appeal.
