Ateneo de Manila University AI Model Enables Non‑Invasive Cardiac Index Monitoring
An international research team led by Patricia Angela R. Abu of Ateneo de Manila University's Department of Information Systems and Computer Science has created an artificial intelligence model that predicts the cardiac index—a key measure of heart‑pump efficiency—using data from non‑invasive skin‑adhesive sensor stickers. The model achieved a classification accuracy of 97.78%, suggesting it can provide reliable heart‑function assessments without the need for specialized hemodynamic analyzers or controlled clinical environments.
The approach could expand access to detailed cardiovascular monitoring in settings lacking advanced equipment or specialist staff, addressing the growing burden of heart disease and related risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes among younger populations in the Philippines.
