Ateneo de Zamboanga University shooting leaves two dead
A shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School has resulted in two deaths: a Grade 10 student and the 15-year-old shooter, who died by suicide. The perpetrator allegedly used two firearms—a .40 caliber pistol and a 9mm pistol—that belonged to his father, a Bureau of Customs (BOC) employee.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that the shooter acted alone and that the father is cooperating with authorities. The shooter's father, who had a permit to carry firearms, reportedly left the weapons in a vehicle used to transport the boy to school. Following the incident, the father has been relieved from his position as a BOC district commander.
During the attack, the minor livestreamed the incident on Facebook Live using a body-mounted camera. In response, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered the Anti-Cybercrime Group to coordinate with social media platforms to remove all related videos and photos to prevent further distress to victims and interference with the investigation.
