Athanagoras elected Metropolitan of Nea Ierousa
The Theological School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has extended congratulations to Athanagoras (Ziliaskopoulos), the former Bishop of Nazianzus, following his election by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as the new Metropolitan of Nea Ierousa in the Holy Archdiocese of America.
Athanagoras is an alumnus of the university, having earned his theology degree in 2001, a master's degree in Dogmatic Theology in 2006, and a doctorate with honors in 2012. His previous experience includes two decades of service in the Metropolis of Germany and serving as the Dean of the Patriarchal Orthodox Theological Academy of Toronto.
Separately, in Syros, the ‘Neofytos Vamvas’ School of Byzantine and Traditional Music held a blessing ceremony to mark the start of its fifth year of lessons. The event, held under the blessing of Metropolitan Dorotheos II of Syros, was led by Archimandrite Venediktos Fragkoyannis and attended by local clergy, instructors, and students.
