Athanasios Thomaidis, 48, dies after stroke in Thessaly, Greece

Athanasios Thomaidis, a 48‑year‑old native of Euixeinoupoli in the Almyros area of Thessaly, died after suffering a cerebrovascular accident. He had been hospitalized at the General Hospital of Volos, where doctors confirmed a stroke, and was subsequently transferred to the Achillopoulio clinic for further care. His health had been deteriorating, and he remained under treatment until his death.

The loss follows the death of his sister, Evangelia, three months earlier at age 54, compounding the family’s grief. Thomaidis had spent many years working in Germany, where he ran his own business, before returning to his hometown about 15 years ago. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, 1 August 2026, at the Holy Dormition of the Theotokos church in Euixeinoupoli, with relatives and local residents expected to attend.
