Athens 9.84 resumes broadcasting after Technopolis fire

The radio station Athens 9.84 has returned to FM broadcasting following a fire that broke out in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, at the Technopolis in Gazi. The fire originated in the station’s basement, specifically in the area housing batteries and UPS units, leading to a power disruption.

The station was off the air for approximately 34 hours. Employees have clarified that the cessation of broadcasting was not a management decision but a mandatory safety measure. According to staff, both the Fire Service and DEDDIE deemed it necessary to implement safety protocols, which required a total power shutdown across the entire Technopolis area.

Workers noted that the outage affected not only the standard electricity supply but also the station’s generator, despite claims that the generator was fully functional. Technical teams and management were present at the site immediately to address the issue and restore operations.
