Athens advances new Panathinaikos stadium and Prophet Daniel Avenue, set for 2027 opening

Athens is constructing a new 1.3‑kilometre, eight‑lane road called Prophet Daniel Avenue. Built from scratch in the Botanikos district, the avenue will link Athinon Avenue with Petrou Ralli, run parallel to Kifissos, and pass by the forthcoming Panathinaikos stadium. Mayor Haris Doukas says the road will become the main traffic axis in the Elaiona area and help relieve congestion on Agia Anna and Marconi streets. The avenue is slated for hand‑over in 2027, coinciding with the stadium’s completion.

Construction of the new Panathinaikos stadium is also progressing rapidly. Drone footage shows the central gate structure rising and the first sections of the two stands taking shape. The project, part of a broader Botanikos regeneration that includes parks, pedestrian pathways and lighting, is expected to be ready for use by May 2027.
