Athens Airport adds eight new international routes to boost tourism

Athens' International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” will add eight new long‑haul destinations in 2026, extending its network to Delhi and Bombay in India, Seoul in South Korea, Dallas in the United States, Lisbon in Portugal, Tallinn in Estonia, and other European cities. New carriers joining the airport include IndiGo, Korean Air, AnimaWings and TAP Air Portugal. IndiGo began direct flights to Delhi and Bombay in January and plans further expansion, while Aegean Airways expects to start its own Delhi and Bombay services from 2027. Greek officials see the routes as a way to lengthen the tourist season and aim to quadruple the number of Indian visitors to Greece from roughly 80,000 to over 320,000 by 2027, exploiting India’s growing high‑income population. The expanded connectivity is presented as a milestone for the airport’s role as a gateway between southeastern Europe and distant markets in the East and West.
