Greek authorities seize large drug shipments and arrest suspects in multiple operations

Greek authorities have conducted major operations targeting international drug trafficking and addressing a fatal overdose.

At Athens International Airport, the Hellenic Coast Guard seized over 7.5 kilograms of narcotics, including 2.2 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a wooden crate from Brazil and 5.3 kilograms of skunk cannabis from the United States. The operation, aided by a drug-detection dog named Mezcal, led to the arrest of a 32-year-old Swedish national. The estimated black market value of the seized substances exceeds 380,000 euros.

In Thessaloniki, a 22-year-old man has been detained following the death of a 20-year-old woman due to an MDMA overdose at a local club. The suspect is accused of supplying the lethal dose and faces charges related to drug trafficking. Authorities have highlighted the extreme dangers of synthetic drugs, noting that users often consume substances of unknown chemical composition and origin.

Additionally, a 22-year-old woman was arrested at Thessaloniki’s Macedonia Airport after being caught with over 18.5 kilograms of skunk cannabis arriving from Barcelona, Spain. She is suspected of being part of an international criminal organization using air travel to smuggle drugs into Greece.
