Athens begins practical training for 94 new municipal police officers
The 94 newly sworn municipal police officers of Athens started their practical field training today. The program follows earlier theoretical courses at the National Centre for Public Administration and a portion of instruction at Greek Police facilities.
Mayor Haris Doukas said the trainees will gain the necessary skills and will soon be deployed to neighborhoods across the city. Deputy Mayor of Municipal Police and Public Spaces Eleftheria Zontirou noted that systematic training began on 30 March and that this final stage familiarises the officers with real‑world conditions.
During the training the officers wear distinct vests marked “ΔΗΜΟΤΙΚΗ ΑΣΤΥΝΟΜΙΑ” so they are easily identifiable by the public. Experienced municipal police staff supervise the exercises, which are intended to prepare the new force for regular city‑wide duties.
