Athens and Thessaloniki face major weekend traffic disruptions
Major traffic disruptions are scheduled across Athens and Thessaloniki this weekend due to religious celebrations, sporting events, and infrastructure works.
In central Athens, road closures and parking bans will occur on Saturday, October 3, to honor Saint Dionysius the Areopagite. Affected areas in the Kolonaki district include Skoufa, Lykavittou, Dimokritou, Solonos, Sekeri, and Kanari streets. On Sunday, October 4, broader restrictions will be implemented for the ‘Greece Race for the Cure 2026’ road race and walk. The event, starting from Pedion tou Areos, will impact major arteries such as Alexandras Avenue, Patision, Akadimias, and Amerikis streets between 06:00 and 13:00.
In Thessaloniki, the Eastern Inner Peripheric Road will face a total closure in both directions between the Papageorgiou (K5) and Meteora (K6) nodes. This closure is scheduled from 23:30 on Saturday, October 3, until 05:30 on Sunday, October 4, to facilitate Flyover construction works. Drivers are advised to follow police instructions and use alternative routes.
