Athens Chamber of Crafts and Trades addresses skilled labor shortage

The Athens Chamber of Crafts and Trades (BEA) recently hosted a discussion titled ‘MADE IN GREECE - The Genealogy of Expertise’ to address the difficulty of finding specialized technicians and the risk of losing professional expertise.

Konstantinos Damigos, President of BEA, emphasized that technical professions should be a ‘conscious choice and not a solution of necessity.’ He noted that attracting young people requires well-paid positions, professional development opportunities, and safe working conditions. He also called for improved vocational guidance in schools from an early age.

Ioannis Manos, First Vice President of BEA, highlighted the importance of connecting apprenticeships with real production and strengthening educational infrastructure to ensure knowledge is passed to future generations. The event was organized by The Telos Society in co-organization with BEA as part of research into technical knowledge and its transmission in Greece.
