Greece submits final 6.75 billion euro Recovery Fund request

Greece has submitted its final request for 6.75 billion euros from the EU Recovery Fund, consisting of 4.4 billion euros in grants and 2.35 billion euros in loans. This marks the conclusion of the 'Greece 2.0' national plan cycle. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that the process has built significant administrative expertise within the public sector, ensuring the country can effectively utilize future European funding packages.

Economically, DBRS forecasts that Greece will continue to outperform much of Europe, projecting GDP growth of 1.8% for both 2026 and 2027. The agency also expects unemployment to decline to 7.8% by 2027.

However, challenges remain. Greek systemic banks show a high reliance on deferred tax credits (DTC) for their CET1 capital, with Piraeus Bank reaching approximately 57% and the sector average exceeding 40%. Additionally, the European Commission has issued warnings regarding potential loss of agricultural funds due to oversight issues and non-compliance in the management of subsidies.
