Athens expands urban parking with new underground facilities

New infrastructure projects are underway in Athens to address chronic parking shortages and traffic congestion through the construction of large-scale underground parking facilities.

In Palaio Faliro, the municipality is developing an underground station at Flisvos Park. This facility is expected to provide 400 parking spaces, including 21 spots for people with disabilities. Additionally, the project will feature 80 electric vehicle charging stations, 4 of which are reserved for people with disabilities.

In Nea Ionia, a project titled ‘Redevelopment of Building Block 150 and Construction of Underground Parking Station’ is currently in progress. With a budget of approximately €17.6 million, this development will create 310 parking spaces near the Nea Ionia metro station to improve regional functionality and alleviate street-level congestion.
