Athens hosts international sepsis and critical care research conference

Athens is hosting the Panhellenic Conference ‘The daily concern for the critically ill: EMBRACE the FUTURE’ from September 25 to 27, 2026, at the Acropolis Museum. Organized by the Greek Society of Chemotherapy in collaboration with the Greek Sepsis Study Institute, the event marks the 20th anniversary of the Greek Sepsis Study Group.

The conference brings together international scientists to discuss sepsis, serious infections, multidrug-resistant pathogens, and microbial resistance. A scientific meeting on September 24 will feature international evaluators, including Professors Djillali Annane, Murat Akova, and Antonio Artigas Raventós, who will assess four ongoing research programs: IMPRESS, PROMISE, CLASSIFY, and EXTENT.

Notable participants include Marco Cavaleri, head of the Biological Threats for Health and Vaccine Strategy Office and the Emergency Task Force at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and Gunto Weiler, head of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Greece.
