Athens launches AthensCharge electric vehicle platform
The Municipality of Athens, through its subsidiary DAEM S.A., is launching ‘AthensCharge’ on October 1st. This new digital platform and mobile application will allow drivers to locate, start, monitor, and pay for electric vehicle charging sessions.
With this initiative, the Municipality of Athens becomes the first in Greece to directly manage its own electric vehicle charging network. DAEM S.A. will be responsible for real-time monitoring, session management, electronic payments, and data analysis to inform future electromobility policies.
The service marks the end of free charging in the municipality. Users will be charged €0.37 per kWh, based on actual energy consumption, with no additional fixed fees or time-based charges. The network initially includes 19 public charging stations, originally donated by Metlen Energy & Metals in 2020, with plans to expand to other municipal areas.
