Athens launches El Club film club for Spanish-language cinema
The Instituto Cervantes in Athens, in collaboration with the Athens Spanish Film Festival (FeCHA), has launched ‘El Club’, a new film club dedicated to Spanish-language cinema. Supported by the Spanish Embassy in Greece and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the initiative aims to create a cultural hub for discussing social issues through film.
The program is divided between two venues: Nirvana Cinemax will host screenings of classic and iconic Spanish and Latin American films that have shaped the history of the medium. Newman Cinema will focus on contemporary productions, often featuring Greek premieres through thematic cycles developed with international festivals and artistic collectives.
The first thematic cycle, titled ‘Música para tus ojos’ (Music for your eyes), is organized in partnership with the international music documentary festival IN-EDIT. This series explores the relationship between the body, music, dance, and sound. All screenings will include Greek subtitles, and specific accommodations, such as adapted subtitles, will be provided for the film ‘El canto de las manos’ to assist viewers with hearing impairments.
