Athens Mayor demands Elliniko Metro comply with Exarcheia court order
Athens Mayor Haris Doukas has issued a formal letter to Elliniko Metro SA, demanding immediate compliance with a court order regarding a construction site in Exarcheia Square. The letter, addressed to the company's president, Spyridon Chrysanthopoulos, highlights the company's failure to adhere to decision 727/2026 from the Athens Multi-Member Court of First Instance.
The court ruling requires the removal of construction fencing where it meets Themistokleous Street and mandates that the functional width of the road be restored to at least 3.50 meters. Doukas emphasized that maintaining this width is critical to ensuring the unobstructed passage of emergency vehicles, such as ambulances from EKAB and Fire Service vehicles.
A judicial inspection conducted on behalf of local residents reportedly confirmed that the required road width has not yet been restored. The Mayor stressed that compliance is necessary to uphold legality and ensure public safety.
