Athens Mayor Haris Doukas Unveils 20 New Small Garbage Trucks

The Municipality of Athens has received twenty new small waste‑collection vehicles designed for bulk items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances. The trucks also serve as rapid‑response units that can navigate narrow streets and hard‑to‑reach neighborhoods.

Mayor Haris Doukas said the addition "strengthens the fleet of the Cleanliness and Recycling Directorate for faster interventions in the neighborhoods". Deputy Mayor for Cleanliness and Recycling Olga Dourou added that the vehicles are expected to give the city "a significant boost in cleanliness" and noted that in the first half of 2026 the department had already increased cleaning deployments by 87%, communal‑area washing by 52% and maintenance actions by 46% compared with the previous year. The new trucks will be put into service in the coming days. Residents are reminded to schedule bulk‑item collection via the 24‑hour hotline 1595. The purchase is part of a wider plan to modernise municipal equipment and improve public‑space upkeep.
