Athens Metro Line 4 faces delays with new 2032 completion target
Construction is underway for Athens Metro Line 4, a new 12.8-kilometer orange line featuring 15 underground stations. The project aims to connect densely populated areas with essential services, including hospitals, universities, and courts.
While significant progress has been made in tunnel excavation using two tunnel boring machines, ‘Athena’ and ‘Niki’, the project faces delays. The ‘Athena’ machine successfully completed the excavation for the Goude-Evangelismos section. However, technical issues in the Kypseli area have caused one of the boring machines to pause operations temporarily. Consequently, the official completion milestone has been pushed from 2029 to September 2032.
