Athens Metro service delays spark social media backlash
A social media post by Symeon Ismailov has sparked significant discussion regarding the reliability and service quality of the Athens Metro. In his critique, Ismailov described the transit system as a place “where time literally dies,” highlighting severe delays and overcrowding.
Key grievances include long wait times on weekends, where passengers may wait between 10 and 18 minutes for a single connection, leading to dangerously crowded platforms. The post also criticizes sudden labor strikes that disrupt commutes and airport connections, as well as reduced service frequency during the summer months despite high temperatures.
Ismailov argued that the current state of public transportation fails to support the city's residents, noting that passengers pay for services that result in “endless waiting, overloaded carriages, and chaotic reliability.”
