Athens police dismantle document forgery ring in Omonoia
Greek police have arrested two foreign nationals following a targeted operation in the Omonoia district of Athens. The suspects allegedly used a mobile phone shop as a front to facilitate the illegal entry, exit, and residence of foreigners through the trafficking of travel documents.
During searches of the shop and a residence, authorities seized seven passports, three identity cards, one residence permit, and two forged driver's licenses. Officers also confiscated passport-style photographs, handwritten notes, five recording cameras, and various SIM cards. Additionally, investigators discovered that numerous mobile connections were being registered under non-existent identities.
Law enforcement seized €34,370 in cash during the raid. One 38-year-old suspect reportedly attempted to obstruct the police inspection and was found to be residing in the country without valid documentation. Both individuals have been brought before a prosecutor facing charges including immigration code violations, forgery, and the handling of criminal products.
