Athens police launch new plan to combat street crime
The Hellenic Police have implemented specialized operational plans to combat petty crime and street offenses in central Athens. This initiative follows a series of chain-snatching incidents targeting women in areas such as Agios Panteleimonas, the Acropolis, and Victoria Square.
The strategy, managed by the Attica General Police Directorate, utilizes a multi-layered approach involving various units, including the Athens Police, Emergency Response (DIAS), and Security units. Key components of the plan include the mapping of high-risk areas, the deployment of flexible intervention teams, and the use of drones to provide real-time surveillance.
Law enforcement aims to increase presence through both visible patrols and undercover operations. The plan is designed to be dynamic, allowing for continuous readjustment based on evolving security needs and direct communication with local business professionals to prevent street crimes and drug-related activities.
