Athens public transport marks one year of 24-hour Saturday service

Athens' public transport system has completed its first year of 24-hour operation on Saturdays. Since the measure began on September 13, 2025, the Metro, tram, and selected bus lines have facilitated significant nighttime mobility.

Over the course of the first year, a total of 2,282,000 passenger trips were recorded during Saturday night hours. Weekly usage has remained steady, with passenger numbers ranging from an initial 50,000 to peaks of 60,000 per Saturday.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Giorgos Kotsiras stated that the results confirm the success of the measure, noting that it provides a safe and reliable option for citizens, particularly young people, while reducing the need for cars and motorcycles and lowering the risk of traffic accidents. To mark the anniversary, celebrations including music and theatrical performances are scheduled at the Syntagma Metro Station.
