Athens public transport implements summer schedule with reduced frequencies

The Organization of Athens Urban Transport (OASA) has activated the first phase of its summer programme, known as "Summer I," which will run throughout July and August. Most bus, trolley, metro, Hellenic Suburban Railway (HSAP) and tram lines will operate on slimmer timetables to match the lower passenger traffic typical of the holiday season.

Frequency is increased on routes serving Eleftherios Venizelos airport, the Piraeus port and coastal areas. Notably, bus line 122 (Barciza – Argyroupoli) will run daily instead of weekends only, improving beach access. Three university‑service routes (242, 250 and E90) are temporarily suspended until the new academic year begins.

Metro and HSAP schedules are adjusted: line 1 of HSAP runs every 7–7.5 minutes on weekdays; line 2 of the metro runs every 4.5 minutes during peak hours (07:00‑19:00) and every 5‑7 minutes otherwise. Line 3 operates under a special timetable due to ongoing track‑replacement works, with trains running every 4.5 minutes in the morning peak and every 5.5‑8 minutes later. The tram runs roughly every 12 minutes until 22:00.

In addition, from 19 July to 23 July, stations on Metro line 3 (Eυαγγελισμός, Μεγαρο Μουσικής, Αμπελόκηποι, Πανόρμου, Κατεχάκη) will close about two and a half hours early at 21:40 to accommodate night‑time construction, and a temporary bus line X22 will link Syntagma and National Defence stations during these hours.
