Athens Ring traffic restrictions to return soon

Authorities are preparing for the reinstatement of the Athens Ring traffic restriction system. While the exact start date is yet to be announced, officials will soon clarify the specific exceptions and the process for issuing digital circulation permits.

Historically, the system has operated from October 20 to July 24. The restrictions apply Monday through Thursday from 07:00 to 20:00, and on Fridays from 07:00 to 15:00.

Citizens can obtain digital permits through gov.gr or daktylios.gov.gr by providing the vehicle registration number and the owner's Tax Identification Number (AFM). The permits feature a unique verification code and an electronic seal for authenticity.

Eligible vehicles include fully electric, natural gas, LPG, and hybrid electric models. Additionally, Euro 6 vehicles qualify if they meet specific CO2 emission thresholds: below 120 g/km for models registered before 2021, and below 145 g/km for models registered from 2021 onwards.
