Athens 'Ring' traffic scheme ends July 24, lifting alternating licence‑plate limits

The traffic restriction known as the "Ring" (Δακτύλιος), which has been in force in central Athens since 20 October, will cease after 24 July. Until that date, vehicles are subject to an alternating‑day system based on the last digit of their licence plates – even numbers may circulate on even dates and odd numbers on odd dates. The limits apply within the Small Ring defined by the main avenues of Alexandras, Mesogeion, Syngrou, Piraeus, Constantinople and other central streets. The measure operates only on weekdays and is not enforced on weekends, official holidays or days of a mass‑transport strike, and drivers using only the peripheral streets of the Ring are exempt.

After 24 July, traffic in the centre of Athens will run without the odd‑even rule. The scheme is expected to be re‑introduced in the autumn for a new enforcement period.
