Athens selected as host for 2028 GAFCON global assembly
The Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (GAFCON) has announced that its next major five-yearly worldwide gathering, GAFCON V, will be held in Athens, Greece, from April 23 to April 28, 2028.
According to an official pastoral letter from the Rt Revd Paul Donison, General Secretary of the Global Anglican Council, this assembly marks the first large-scale global convening of orthodox Anglicans since the adoption of the Abuja Affirmation. The event is expected to draw thousands of delegates, including bishops, clergy, and lay leaders from various provinces, dioceses, and regional branches worldwide.
Organizers are planning an all-inclusive logistical package that covers lodging, meals, and transport. To facilitate attendance, a bursary system will be established to provide financial assistance to delegates from lower-income dioceses. Additionally, optional tours are being planned to allow attendees to visit New Testament sites in Greece and Türkiye associated with the missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul.
