Athens businesses targeted in series of grenade and Molotov attacks
A series of attacks targeted businesses in Athens during the early hours of Tuesday. The incidents included a Molotov cocktail attack on a bakery in Kallithea around 01:00, followed by two grenade explosions in the Omonoia and Agios Panteleimonas areas.
In the Omonoia district, an assailant reportedly used a manhole cover to break a cafe window on Acharnon Street before throwing a hand grenade inside at approximately 04:25. About 30 minutes later, a similar method was used at a shop near America Square and Mithymni Street in Agios Panteleimonas, where an explosive device caused another explosion.
No injuries were reported, though the attacks caused significant material damage to the targeted establishments. Greek police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department are investigating the incidents, focusing on the identical methods used, which suggests the attacks may be linked or part of an extortion attempt.
